Well, this post sure took its time. If you’re following my Instagram, it was over a week ago that I posted something as groundbreaking as the flat white and the Drake’s pocket square above. But how am I to resist when the caffeinated sartorial gods align colors like that?
As it was a sunny Friday morning, I had jumped at the opportunity to skip the overcoat and simply go with a wool jacket that I found in a random little store in Rome several years ago. If you’ve ever been into any of the small menswear stores scattered throughout Rome, you might have found that the fit and style of most of these places are somewhat outdated. While the jacket hung in my closet for a few years and saw little wear, it wasn’t until I finally brought it to a tailor and had it nipped and tucked for a more fitted silhouette.
As the Houndstooth pattern has a lot of character in itself, I usually wear it with a pair of solid navy wool trousers and a simple tie that doesn’t compete with the jacket – on this occasion a navy shantung tie from Drake’s.
Coupled with my brown double monk-straps from Meermin and my father’s old Georg Jensen watch (more to come on this in a future post), it’s a classic outfit that where the jacket is the rightful center of attention.
And that divine flat white? Courtesy of the good folks at Curators Coffee just near Oxford Circus – check them out if you’re in the neighborhood.
