The Commute

Oh Mondays, why are you always such a test of will and determination?
After freely roaming the sun-kissed streets and parks of London over the weekend, it’s quite reluctantly that one squeezes oneself aboard an already packed train en route to an office, where a swelling inbox of emails awaits.
On mornings like this, I find myself forcing a kind of tunnel vision (no tube pun intended) that focuses on the little things that make the commute more manageable. Like a good cup of morning brew from the Department of Coffee and Social Affairs and a chance to catch up on a podcast. Lately, I’ve been listening to a lot of Monocle’s excellent podcasts on everything from culture, business or news – the evening commute usually accompanied by the Midori House podcast, which  provides both background and context to the day’s top stories in 30 minutes. Just enough time to get me through the daily game of “step on my well-polished shoes and terrible things will happen to you” on the tube.
